Project Overview

My project is called "GOODNIGHT, GOOD NIGHT", and the inspiration comes from Dylan Thomas' poem "Don't Go Gentle into That Good Night". The original poem is about resisting and fighting against death. However, I interpreted it in the opposite way - for contemporary young people, it's not death but the continuous and systematic pressure that they face. I changed "resistance" to "exhaustion" and explored the rationality of "stopping, resting, and temporarily giving up".

First layer: Visualization

Typography Design

I designed a unique font based on Arial. Through stretching, twisting, and sinking, I expressed the state of exhaustion. The font is not just an information carrier; it is also a direct expression of emotions - allowing viewers to "feel" the physical and psychological state of being oppressed by society.

Second layer: Experiential

Book Design
I created a font collection corresponding to the font, as well as immersive books. I arranged Thomas's poems. However, as the reading progressed, the text gradually distorted, sank, became blurry, and dissipated. The layout became irregular and the reading rhythm was disrupted. Additionally, I designed an introduction manual to guide the audience to understand the design of each section. During the experience, the audience would feel increasing fatigue and even have the urge to "give up".

The exhibition space is constricted on three sides, with the floor extending continuously, leaving no breathing space or dead corners. The audience is not merely viewing the exhibition; they are experiencing a miniature form of collapse.

Third layer: Everydayness

Finally, there is a set of portable accessories, with a unique blind bag design. The exhibition allows you to experience stress, stickers help you record the pause, and the accessories enable you to take away your own "pause permission". The transition from a collective experience to personal confirmation allows "lying down" to enter daily life from the exhibition space.

(This picture only shows a partial view. Each blind bag design is different. Please refer to the actual product for details.)

Conclusion :)

Lying flat is not the end; it's the preparation for a fresh start. This project is also for myself - I often forget that "stopping" is also an option. I also hope it can remind those who want to stop but dare not, that you can also take a break.
