My paintings are an exploration of interior, private spaces and the shifting perspectives from which we experience them. I am particularly interested in the female experience of being looked at: the often claustrophobic, intrusive sensation of the gaze, and the quiet urge to step outside of it, to become de-centred or unseen.
I investigate our interaction with familiar spaces and the places we retreat to for comfort, whether rooted in physical environments or imagined, dreamlike ones. My process involves stripping away material to create translucent, fragile surfaces that echo the ephemerality of the moments I depict. These loose, layered textures speak to the instability of memory and the impermenance of introspection.
I am influenced by the visual language of film noir: doorways, windows, and corridors act as recurring motifs, framing space while indicating presence, absence, and thresholds between inner and outer worlds.
