My project, Regularities, explores themes of displacement, exclusion, and disillusionment with educational systems. The title draws from the concept of "Perceived Regularities" - the patterns we come to believe exist based on our own experiences. Architectural forms are made into patterns which are then layered with other images, often taken from pencil drawings. I then create digital compositions by adding and subtracting lines and print these layered images onto transparent materials. This technique allows the work to function as a window, offering multiple layers of visual depth, where the viewer can peer through or view multiple layered images at once. Printed acetate is suspended between acrylic sheets to form a solid object, which is then placed in a floor to ceiling steel frame. These become architectural features which divide the room, controlling the flow of traffic through the space, mimicking the flow of student through both a school building and through the education system itself.
