About LOOM-inate

LOOM-inate draws from the idea ‘to illuminate’—to make a difficult concept easier to understand. Like this concept, LOOM-inate uses the innate human sense for craft to simplify weaving patterns to support and build confidence for craft among young adult users.

Weaving, though one of the most diverse and long-living crafts in human history, is facing a decline in traditional practice. Considerations to the disappearance of craft and the dilution of craft history has guided this project to consider the ways in which design can innovate upon historic precedence to create modern products that continue to spark interest in craft among young people.

As manufacturing becomes faster, more digitalised and separate from human touch, LOOM-inate acts to facilitate these growingly rare interactions of slow manufacture that are found within the practice of weaving.

Drawing from the concept of pin-looms, a popular DIY loom used in small scale weaving projects, LOOM-inate is an on-the-go weaving companion that follows users throughout their days, offering a mindful practice anywhere, anytime.
