Katy is an interdisciplinary product designer, having worked across many mediums and fields. Her final year project 'Shtuff' showcases her passion for both textiles and sustainability, as well as demonstrating her technical skill in furniture design and manufacture. Katy is a maker, and has worked with glass, wood, metal and ceramics, but the core of her work is grasping the fundamentals of a problem and tackling it with intelligent design and sensitivity.

What is Shtuff?

Shtuff encompasses two things: sustainable textile design and sustainable furniture design. In the UK each year, £140 million worth of clothes are disposed of, valuable wool is being buried and burned, and furniture is being chucked out and replaced at a rapid rate: in the face of this Katy decided to create Shtuff. Katy has developed a knitted lambs-wool textile for use in upholstery which uses up shredded textile waste. On top of this she has also designed sustainable furniture which is made of sustainably sources birch plywood and is designed for dis-assembly.
