I work with a variety of mediums, both digital and physical, to create surreal, distorted and vulnerable depictions of the cacophonous cityscape as I experience it - one that mirrors the cacophony of grief. The City Rat Sublime is the culmination of a project that has focused on geometry, light, sound, marks in the pavement and the bus - both as a facilitator of motion and a chamber of reflection. I have collected found objects and reimagined their purposes as part of an immersive and playful installation that uses video, poetry, graffiti and sculpture to bring the outside inside and simultaneously, the grieving inside outside.
The installation forces your direction of travel. It creates obstacles, forces you to go back on yourself and confronts you with snippets of words and phrases that begin to appear more like symbols - like reading your horoscope in the pavement.
