Bio

My art practice is largely based in making with crochet to blend dualities of feminist and sustainable crafts. I began by working from a hyperbolic crochet symbol which when mirrored, formed likeness to a pelvis. This symbol contains many material and conceptual possibilities which I connected to ecological sustainability and subverting misconceptions of craft. Material processes are a key element to my practice as I largely work with recycled or disregarded plastic bags.

The works I create are inspired by my families legacy of crafters reflected by endless webs of crochet chains, much like my own strands of thought. I am inspired by personal discoveries which connect me to my family’s history of makers and creators. Having been taught to knit and crochet by my grandmother, I associate crafts with acts of care. An act of passing down knowledge and fostering empowerment carried by families due to human touch and connection. Understanding that how I am currently making with my hands is deeply tied to my ancestors, forms generational bridges and entangled threads. A link known as a spiritual umbilical cord.
