Project description

The Museum of Overconsumption is an installation made to raise awareness about how the abundance of everyday items impacts the environment and how designers contribute to this issue. It is made to encourage people to take action against the issue, through activism and design.

The Museum of Overconsumption is made for consumers, to encourage them to become anti-overconsumption activists, and designers, to encourage them to design more responsibly.

The Museum of Overconsumption is an installation for now! It is made to address the issue of overconsumption that is currently contributing to pressing environmental challenges. To reach a wider, varied audience, it is a mobile museum, run by the designer. It is taken to different locations and set up as a temporary installation. The locations would be ones frequented by shoppers or in areas with high concentrations of designers, in order to effectively reach both the target users.

Using predominantly just found objects and discarded materials, it has been made as environmentally friendly as possible. Any new materials or energy intensive processes that were used to make the elements were carefully considered, ensuring that the social and environmental impact of the element would outweigh the harm its design or making may cause.
