Project description

Elm - Interactive design to encourage task completion and routine.

Setting yourself an achievable goal and actually following through with it can be a really tricky process . It takes on average between 9 and 30 attempts for smokers to quit smoking in the UK and research suggests that establishing a new routine or habit typically takes an average of 66 days.

There is considerable potential to support individuals in creating and sustaining meaningful routines. Many people encounter early disappointment when attempting to form new habits, often due to setting unrealistic expectations or lacking an existing structure to build upon.

Elm is designed to assist individuals to build and maintain healthy routines. By combining visual cues with the proven psychology of social accountability, Elm supports users in staying on track with their goals.

Users simply input their intentions and timeframes into the Elm app. From there, Elm delivers gentle, friendly reminders—such as a welcoming arm wave animation—while leveraging the power of shared progress within a supportive online community. Through intuitive design and subtle social motivation, Elm transforms routine-building into a more engaging, human experience.

Completed a goal? Bop Elm’s head and watch as you receive your celebratory dance whilst also being notified in the app of your success. Why not shout about it? Help encourage others in your community who haven’t yet completed their goal by sending a personalised message via the app.
