“Out of Dormancy” is my collection of wall pieces that took inspiration from various Scottish Landscape Artists. With my wall pieces I am hoping to inspire and awaken the feelings of nature just by observing the leaves of the trees crisscrossing one another, like looking up at a canopy of tree foliage. With these 3D images, it allows the onlooker to imagine what is hidden in the space behind. I want to capture the same emotion I feel, as an observer, of being enfolded into the landscape. Like the awakening of the dormant tree, I want the viewer to awaken and slowly find themselves hidden among the leaves.
I have a passion for working with metal because of its tactile appeal and it is exciting to manipulate flat metal sheets into structural representations of my thoughts and ideas. In the making of my ‘Graduate Show’ pieces, I have used steel with recycled silver for the rivets. I have incorporated powder coating on parts of the steel to give colour, and through layering and overlapping, I have achieved the representation of tree foliage.
