Why did I start this project?
This project stems from my reflections on social media reports about conflicts and tensions between nations. After looking at historical records, I noticed that similar conflicts happened again and again, and the main cause is always competition for resources.
Now we can easily see news about wars online, but they often feel distant from our daily life. We may feel angry or sad because we empathize with people. We are also influenced by political narratives, which encourage us to see one side as right and another as wrong. However, conflicts caused by unequal resources are rarely that simple. So I chose a tribal setting. Compared with modern society, tribal communities have much simpler social structures and relationships. At the same time, survival resources are much harder to obtain.
This idea was first inspired by a tribal conflict storyboard page I created after attending the Wednesday Talk by Zara Slattery. It made me wonder what had caused it, how it might become worse, and how it might end. I realized that once I removed the political labels from both sides, survival became the only thing that mattered. At that point, I could no longer say who was right or wrong.
