Project description

Cherry Creek Paranormal is a middle-grade sci-fi horror graphic novel. The story follows a club of young paranormal investigators uncovering the secrets lurking within their town and adapting to massive ecological change, all while trying to navigate the eighth grade.

The story aims to explore the existential dread of growing up in a rapidly changing world through the lens of horror in children's media and the ways in which nostalgia and conspiracy-thinking are weaponized in the 21st century.

As an illustrator, I'm personally interested in monsters, ghosts, and all things scary as a way to explore reflections of ourselves. There has been a distinct lack of truly scary stories for kids in recent years, and I want Cherry Creek Paranormal to be a space for kids living in a scary world to know they're not alone.

Cryptids

From cute critters to hulking beasts, unknown monsters have begun to wreak havoc in Cherry Creek. As weird sightings whip the townsfolk into a panicn the gang races to get to the bottom of what is bringing these strange beings to their town.

Delving deeper into the mystery reveals the cryptids to be mutated local wildlife that have been exposed to an otherworldly ooze. As the creatures grow larger and more horrific, the kids fight to connect the secrets of this mysterious pollution to the history of their town and an underground cult's unspeakable plans for ecological collapse.
