Throne of Glass

This project was my first of 4th year and based on the fantasy book series, Throne of Glass, by Sarah J Maas, which I have re-imagined for a television series.

In this project, I experimented with combining historical and otherworldly silhouettes, intricate textiles, printing and fabric manipulation.

My final costume was based on the character Manon Blackbeak, a ruthless queen of witches.

For this costume I explored techniques like free machine embroidery, metalwork, welding and breaking down.

Castle in the Sky

For this fourth year project, I re-designed Hayao Miyazaki's beloved film, Castle in the Sky, as a stage adaptation, set in 1980s UK.

I experimented with rust dyed textiles, screen printing and embroidery to create a rich, textural backdrop to design from.

For my final year costume, I chose to make the costume for Louis, one of Dola's sons and a member of her pirate gang. This character is fun and quirky, drawing inspiration from both 1980's punk and utilitarian fashion.
