Bio

Kato’one Koloamatangi is of Tongan descent, born and raised in Tamaki Makaurau (Auckland, Aotearoa New Zealand) and holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts/Bachelor of Arts conjoint degree from the University of Auckland/Elam School of Fine Arts. In her practice she seeks to explore themes of diasporic positionality, cultural identity as well as her place within society as a Tongan woman. Kato’one is a multidisciplinary artist who works with various mediums depending on the given task. Her recent work has utilised transparent mesh fabric/textiles as well as Oceanic peoples relationship to the fonua (land and ocean) through her Tongan heritage.
