‘Psychomythology in Music: Multimedia Storytelling Through Tarot’ is a musical exploration of non-musical narratives derived from tarot cards and mythology. In this project I explore: established and interpretive narratives surrounding specific cards and iconography, the selective process of appropriate mediums and genres for each artistic rendition, the practical application of these approaches, and finally, the efficacy of the resulting work.

The audible aspect of ‘Psychomythology in Music’ takes the form of an E.P. consisting of 4 instrumental tracks, whilst the written aspect will evaluate and explain each piece, offering an analytical breakdown of context and stylistic reference. Each track covers a theme tied to each of the chosen tarot cards within this project. These themes are: Naiveté, Introspection, Structure and Oppression, and finally, Individuality and Compromise, all building towards a genre-fluid future concept-album.

I have also included a visual representation of my compositions. I incorporated this as my intention is to showcase a multimedia approach to interpretive storytelling, and the nature of personal interpretation. The process of experiencing a visual and written/spoken story in the original tarot cards, repurposing that through my own musical style, and then reformatting my sonic interpretation as visual once again shows how malleable and personally experiential storytelling can be.
