Yuanming Li is a product designer, intertwine human emotions with functionality to elevate life quality. His philosophy, "Design For Emotions," guides him in creating objects that offer emotional support and fulfillment. Yuanming strive to transform inanimate objects into sources of comfort, encouraging deep emotional connections and well-being. He hope to awaken this era that overlooks emotional value with his designs.

Project Description

Comfiety is designed to assist individuals with GAD by using wearable textured textiles. It features textured patches that can be attached to any clothes surface to help users comfort their emotions during moments of anxiety. Moreover, I designed it as inviting users to completing the design with themselves, which helps them realize their agency and dignity.

Why Comfiety?

Integrating fashion texture into anxiety relief methods: My design helps users connect with reality while empowering them to fight their illness which either traditional treatment methods and app therapies can.

Fashion and uniqueness replace awkwardness and uniformity: Users are encouraged using my product in public settings to comfort anxiety without feeling embarrassed.

Effectively handles/ sudden anxiety situations: The wearable textured patches allow users to deal with anxiety that can arise at any moment. This is powerful because it tells users that they can do something to change their current state.

Empowering users with the freedom to choose: Assisting in the completion of my product helps users realize their self-empowerment, which is often absent when dealing with mental health challenges. 

Incorporating art therapy techniques: Art therapy is a new psychological treatment that aims to help patients comfort anxiety through participate in artistic creation. Dyeing and sewing are my attempts to embrace art therapy into the product.

Comfiety include

Four dyeable fabric patches: These patches can be placed on any clothes, allowing users to wear them at any time.

Four dye kits: Each kit contains dye materials same to its bag color, allowing users to customize the color of their patches as desired.

One sewing kit: Includes a bundle of thread, a needle, and 20 buttons, which can also be dyed.

Additional materials include a product introduction booklet to explain the product concept and two instruction manuals to help users complete simple sewing and dyeing process.

The fabric I have chosen has a smooth surface and a sturdy texture. This ensures that the product maintains a comfortable and gentle physical touch, while also allowing it to be shaped into solid, diverse structures.

Color for dye

In this aspect, I look for the medical insights on the emotional relationship between colors and the GAD individuals. After that I choosing six colors: black, gray, grass green, blue, brown, and pink. These colors include those favored by the GAD individuals as well as those that can comfort emotions. I used the same fabric as the main patches, so the users can directly see the color after dye.

I have chosen to use similar fabric with patches and Kraft paper for the packaging design. 

Using similar materials can make the overall appearance unified, providing users with a complete usage experience. 

Simple packaging allows users to clearly see the product and also enables them to repack it for repeated use.
