'' Imperfection and impermanence are not things to be feared, but actually things that give beauty. ''
The design aims to celebrate coastal erosion of the cliffed coast of Garron Point and the rocky Skatie Shore in Stonehaven, Scotland. As part of a site of special scientific interest(SSSI), these areas are critical to maintaining visibility at exposures, but excessive erosion is squeezing the shoreline, destabilizing the cliffs and impacting the site's roads and vegetation ecosystems.
The proposal is based on scientific testing and the use of local resources and aims to reduce the impact of breaking waves and currents on the cliff. And by controlling and collecting sediment, different forms of intervention not only slow down the erosion process, but also enhance ecological coastal habitats. The design takes into account time, geology, climate change and tidal changes, with erosion as a theme. It aims to achieve new management through the restoration of the landscape by controlling and guiding erosion processes.
The ultimate goal is to celebrate these eroded areas into monumental landscapes while protecting the integrity of their ecosystems and providing a sustainable place for local communities and visitors to live in harmony with nature.
