Bio

Born and raised in Saigon, Vietnam, the first-born child of an electrical engineer father and an accountant mother, I have been in love with drawing and animation for an entire life.  I spent most of the time playing video games, reading comic books and watching cartoons, which have been my main inspirations ever since. My inconspicuously detailed drawings with angular, sharp, rough lines with stylized colours are influenced by Hayao Miyazaki’s realistic and delicate films, along with Disney’s scratchy-stylized outline from 101 Dalmatians. Raucous yet comprehensive is how I define my art.

My love for art is not for drawing only but also for bringing life into my characters, which was why I decided to be an animator after finishing high school. I'm very interested in facial expressions.  Reading psychological research about human’s behaviours and sentiments is one of my habits. I also learn from taking notes and paying attention carefully to one’s emotion while communicating. I firmly believe that one must have fully understood others' specific emotion before being able to recreate them via animation. My main goal is to be able to create an animated feature that can touch people’s hearts. Laughter is not my only aim but also tears, depression, and happiness. I have a big love for fantasy and magic; however, I prefer doing an animation about daily life because life is a miracle; therefore, I want to capture every beautiful moment of this beautiful life to my work with my own experiences.

Aside from my love for animation, I also enjoy travelling—I'm inspired by different cultures and customs, which bring more depth to my perspective. My ambition is to make an animated series about each country’s culture to connect the world. Besides many things mentioned above, I would spend most of my free time with my old film camera and my beloved 17-strings zither.

An Unfinished Story, Just like Myself.

I am always dreaming about creating a short film that expresses how my country and background have been inspiring me; Lost is such a project. The project's current status is unfinished; it is also the feeling that I am having for myself. For so many years, I believe that I was lost, that I was confused with what to do next because of the stressful lifestyle. Working on Lost, somehow, helps with my anxiety. I have time to think about my story, origin, childhood, and what I want to tell via the story: A story of a character struggling with depression to find her ecstatic persona again and how the traditional value of each person can heal their soul. It will take time for me to fully complete the story as I have planned in the beginning while developing my skill in animating. However, I believe that both my character and I will overcome the sorrow one day.

Beside doing traditional animation, working on 3D animation with Autodesk Maya is my favourite activity.
