My painting and sculptural practice is informed by dance. I was engaged in this artistic process first from vintage film that had choreographed dance scenes, that not only provided visual entertainment for the audience, but also the whimsical nature of a growing love story, or the velocity of movement to accompany a heart racing scene. My research on vintage film choreography catalysed my practice to depict passionate scenes, but instead of the attention being drawn to the aesthetics of costume, or the dancers, I countered this with shapes and colour to divulge the momentary changes of speed, or the emotive values of the dance or sadness of the musical accompaniment. I utilized this media by sketching at real time speed of the dances.
