Festivals generate 23,500 tones waste in the UK alone each year. With an interest in sustainability, my focus is on upcvcling seemingly 'unwanted' materials discarded at festivals.
To address this issue, I have showcased the joy of festival attendance through drawings of dancing attendees, emphasizing their positive impact against the negatives of the waste the designs are applied to. These illustrations capture the essence of festivals and serve as a foundation for my designs, incorporating various techniques to bring them to life.
The colour palette in my work draws inspiration from festival makeup looks, wristbands and posters, featuring predominantly warm colours with metallics and contrasting dark, and bright colours. However, given the nature of working with waste, my palette evolved based on the collected materials.
The upcycled materials are intended to return to festivals as worn garments via attendees. This allows them to be cherished as new experiences are made.
