Project description

Over 10 million people in the UK suffer from arthritis which affects individuals of all ages and causes pain, fatigue, and limited mobility, all of which are intrusive to daily life and affect one's ability to work, care for a family, move freely, and live independently. The most common type is osteoarthritis, in which the body cannot maintain and repair joints, leading to damaged cartilage. Access to care remains a huge barrier for many people needing arthritis treatment. To reduce the strain on the NHS, more accessible methods of care, like self-management strategies, are being promoted to improve people's quality of life.

Alleviate is designed in response to the shift in thinking about managing your long-term arthritis. Alleviate is a smart-wearable top which provides on-the-go, adjustable, discreet comfort for individuals with arthritis. Integrated heating and compression technology targets the wearer's upper body joints (wrists, elbows, shoulders, lower back), offering a soothing relief from arthritis-related pain and stiffness. Users can customise the level of heat and compression according to their preferences. The garment's contemporary and sporty design challenges the highly stigmatising aesthetics of current medical devices. Alleviate aims to empower individuals to take control of their arthritis care, promoting independence, comfort, and mobility throughout the day.

Enhance your autonomy and quality of life with Alleviate.
