Project description

ARCANUM 22 is a world made up of fantastical spheres, inhabited by characters with vivid lives and stories. Blending performance, installation, film, diagrams and the written word, ARCANUM 22 co-opts the Major Arcana of traditional tarot to draw the audience into different modes of living. ARCANUM 22 lives in the space between, and asks the viewer to blur their boundaries and act as vessels to embody characters. Reality and fantasy become the two halves of our future. ARCANUM 22 is a sanctuary for the escapists, the activists, the curious, and anyone who dreams of different worlds.

Astraia Mourns the Queen at the Tower

An inter-spherical traveller, Astraia finds herself in the Tower, an archive outside of time, after learning of the Queen’s death and shattering herself in her grief. Here, she charts who she is and laments what she has lost to the Constitute’s conquest: the capture and death of the Oniscomorphae Queen, the brutal hunting and harvesting of her larvae, the destruction of their Hive. Stepping through the veil into Astraia’s mind, the audience is immersed in the scent, sound and sight of a world as much like ours as it is not.
