Project description

Drawing on the concepts of kintsugi and wabi-sabi, which embrace imperfection, along with the idea of isomorphism linking nature, architecture, and the human body, the project aims to honour Dundee’s heritage, epitomized by Keiller’s marmalade. Situated within the Edwardian theatre fly tower, the project seeks to blend the old with the new, and past with the present, while envisioning a progressive future for Dundee.

The proposal incorporates elements of the existing Well-gate Centre to accommodate a range of activities, including jam-making, dancing, and library services, catering to both residents and visitors alike.

Drawing of Essence

The x-ray cutaway axonometric aims to explore the meandering route. Borrowing from Louis Khan Exeter Library, the idea of taking the book towards a place, in this case walking from the shadow towards the light (oculus).

The layered drawing style is a development from my tracing structural drawing from on detail, and aims to explore the atmosphere of weaving through a bookshelf.

The idea of isolating the route as a fragment borrows Stijn Jonckheere’s series named “Rogier“, isolating and abstracting machinery to abstract prints.
