tot·m
About tot·m

An estimated 2.5 to 3 million adults in the UK suffer from ADHD, an often misunderstood disorder which can strongly impact their ability to maintain focus, or manage their time, emotions and stress, in turn affecting significant parts of their daily functioning. tot·m is a customizable fidgeting based tool for young adults with ADHD, intended to help them combat overwhelm and plan their time more effectively.

tot·m is designed to seamlessly integrate into the the user’s daily routine. Each day, the user can build a tot·m representing their tasks for the day. The first step is picking a base length, which will define how many tasks they need to, or feel like they can get done. Users then pick sensory bits that represent their tasks. These bits cover a range of materials, textures, forms and colors, allowing users full control in how they choose to associate tasks with them. The user can then carry their tot·m with them throughout the day, and fidgeting with it will serve as a soft reminder system to help them remember their tasks and manage their time. The fidgeting itself also then serves a further de-stressing purpose.

Though the range of materials was decided on for functionality, it also came from a desire to make the design feel special, as people with ADHD are unfortunately often still judged or not taken seriously. Tot·m aims to empower its users, encouraging them not to feel ashamed of their difference.
