Project description

My lens-based practice seeks to illuminate quiet, passing moments that are hidden within the everyday. Employing a monochromatic palette, 35mm and 120mm analogue formats I focus on delicate tones and textures, drawing poetic parallels between the human form and the natural world. With skilful framing and composition, I elevate my chosen subjects, revealing their subtle intricacies, lines and contours.

As someone prone to feeling overwhelmed, I have found solace in walking. Edinburgh’s public gardens and parks become small sanctuaries where I can slow down, breathe deeply, and appreciate tranquillity in its simplest forms. I ground myself with a mindful approach to image-making through intricate observation. This meditative state of mind not only enriches my experience, but it also exudes into my work. Each photograph serves as an authentic lyrical representation of a moment.

When exhibiting my work, the rhythmic cycles of breathing, walking, and photographing are mirrored through the use of  projection. I showcase the intimacy of a moment juxtaposed with the immediacy of its passing, creating a sense of impermanence. By utilising controlled light and delicate fabric, I create a space that invites viewers to slow down, breathe deeply,  and appreciate the quiet. This cultivation of a tranquil space draws attention to the subtle, delicate details of the evanescent moments that may go unnoticed in our fast-paced lives.
