My Graduate Collection 2024, I hold close to my heart. Despite being an incredibly outgoing and confident individual, I do not truly divulge personal details of my life. Therefore, I feel that this is the perfect opportunity to uncover what’s truly inside.
Perhaps the most defining moment of my childhood was in 2009 when my twin brother was diagnosed with a brain tumour at the age of 7, from that day onwards life was never the same. His tumour was discovered through a retinal image, highlighting my research into viewpoint, illusion, and colour. The eye and the idea of view is recurring, as all my family including myself are dyslexic. I therefore will explore neurodivergence and how colour and text alter accessibility.
My biggest escape place was the Northumberland coastline which we are so blessed to have nearby, often spending summers are my Godmothers second homes in Hutton and Paxton, small villages near to the coastal Scottish border. They became hugely significant to us, as an escape from reality, a happy place. I want to delve into the histories of these villages, looking at the landscape and the people, combining this with the contemporary world which is now visible in these areas, looking at textures, and clothing.
A driving force behind my collection will be colour, and the excitement and joy that colour brings to life, along with communicating comfort through texture. My collection will be a celebration of the light at the end of every tunnel, through celebratory garments.
