Project Description

I do technically study painting, however this project has allowed me to apply painterly qualities to 3D subjects.

The sculptural part of my practice consists of crudely manufactured cardboard and clay that’s forcefully stuck together with hot glue, this is then poorly disguised with paint/pastel. I collect scrap materials for constructing my sculptural assemblages, or to include in ‘3D’ paintings - cardboard, fabric, packaging and other general detritus.

The characters and relationships represented in these artworks are often portrayed in a way that emphasises their flaws. These shoddily made dioramas aim to reflect various comical and complicated facets of human nature and relationships  – a lot of which is especially relatable to those familiar with UK culture.

The objective of this body of work is to explore humanhood, portraying the less aesthetic side of everyday life in a way that is recognisable in its imagery and narrative. Despite the work being a caricature, I hope viewers can relate by seeing themselves or someone they know within the subject matter.
