This dissertation project explores the potential of graphic design and visual communication to move towards sustainability within the food system. Background research conducted through a literature review examined the opportunities for change within the food production, processing, transportation, retail, consumption, and waste processes. This review highlighted how lowering our meat and animal product consumption in the global north has the potential to significantly lower greenhouse gas emissions, reduce biodiversity loss, and improve individual health. Drawing aesthetic and methodological inspiration from visual activism, public health campaigns, and food advertisements, the resulting design proposal in the form of a poster campaign aims to empower consumers to make more sustainable food choices.
