My illustrations explore themes of nature, particularly wildlife and botanicals that are found in Scotland. My work is created with a sense of place, as I find inspiration in the natural surroundings and wildlife of where I grew up on the West Coast of Scotland.
I enjoy working with paper and make collages to create many of my illustrations. My collage work is all based on and inspired by photographs I have taken whilst visiting my hometown in Kintyre. My Inneans Bay collages were created after going on a research trip to photograph the isolated area and experience the scenery. The theme of coastal habitats also runs through my work, as seen in my collection of wrapping paper designs and Atlantic puffin infographic poster. Each repeat pattern focuses on a specific area On The Sand (light blue), By The Shoreline (yellow) and In The Sea (dark blue). The wildlife in these designs can be found locally to my hometown. My work is designed to appeal to younger audiences, this lead me to creating a baby board book about Scottish wildlife, the spreads can be seen below.
I use my illustrations as an opportunity to research and explore the natural world that surrounds us.
