Bio

As a multidisciplinary artist, my work is largely directed by the availability of materials sourced in an economically effective or sustainable capacity. To understand the limits of discarded materials, I experiment with a variety of methods from deconstruction to reassembly. Eventually, I aim to produce aesthetic compositions that give the materials a renewed appearance, form or purpose as they work in collaboration with one another and their surroundings.

Recently I have developed skills in pottery using repurposed clay; across the five-year duration of this degree I have a maintained a relationship with ink, having explored the ways in which the medium creates dynamic contrast and tonal gradients. I have found that the fluidity of my initial mark-making resonates with ceramic forms and their glazes, as the element of motion unifies these two components of my practice.

Informants of my work range from scholarly interests in Late Antiquity and the Italian Renaissance, to my professional time in the commercial art industry. Predominantly through visiting exhibitions and studying texts, I have become aware of the historic and postmodern realms, enabling me to observe how my practice sits within the evolving contemporary sphere.
