Project description

"Bedtime Distance" is an artistic exploration inspired by the phenomenon of revenge bedtime procrastination. This project delves into the contrasting activities and emotional states people experience while in bed, from the anxieties that delay sleep to  serene and healing moments.  By highlighting these bedtime behaviors, "Bedtime Distance" aims to provide insights and strategies for achieving a more balanced and restful nighttime routine, encouraging readers to reflect on their own habits and find peace in their nightly journey.

Overview
Publication: Bedtime Distance

"Bedtime Distance" is a unique publication designed to be the same length as a bed, symbolizing the physical and emotional space we occupy during the night. This extended format visually arranges the entire process of "revenge bedtime" in a dynamic sequence, capturing the key themes of day and night, anxiety and healing, overthinking, and self-control. Each page unfolds a journey through the mind's late-night struggles, offering a reflective exploration of the tension between restlessness and the desire for peace. Through this work, readers are invited to confront their own nocturnal anxieties and discover paths toward healing and self-care.

Toolkit: Tear Catcher

This tear catcher serves not only as a vessel for your emotions but also as a symbol of self-control. It is part of the "Bedtime Distance" project, symbolizing the emotions and unspoken stress that accumulate during the night. The delicate patterns on the bottle are derived from one of the fragments of the designer's 20-day pre-sleep drawing record, with the designs reflecting the mood and anxiety levels each night. The designer hopes that through this example, you can find your own way to cope. Through the tear catcher, I hope you find moments of peace each night, learn to cherish your emotions, and guide them toward healing.

Toolkit: Stone Handle

The "Stone Handle" handcuffs are a conceptual piece within the "Bedtime Distance" project, designed to symbolize the self-imposed restraints of revenge bedtime procrastination. The handcuffs serve as a metaphor, encouraging individuals to recognize this phenomenon and explore ways to regain control over their nighttime habits.

Toolkit: Book Slipcase

The purpose of this book slipcase design is to create a tangible connection between the comforting ritual of bedtime reading and the broader themes of "bed" and "distance" explored in the "Bedtime Distance" project. This product serves not only as a functional object, based on research into bedtime habits related to books (such as reading and book placement), but also as a symbolic representation of the intimate space we create for ourselves during our bedtime routines, encouraging users to consider the emotional and psychological distance they travel each night.
