The Future is Olach is a collection that focuses on creating regenerative knitted Textiles for fashion. The designs featured have been created with 100% British, traceable wool and natural dyes. This theme of traceability allows for the knowledge in the materials production, and if this has been done in an ethical and sustainable way. The imagery and colours seen within my project are from the natural landscapes seen within the Scottish Highlands, which features an array of many different vibrant colours and organic patterns, seen within its native Gorse flowers, hills and lochs. Combined with the use of printed textiles done with natural dyes and manutex, a natural seaweed binder, I have used a process called, 'Knit-de-Knit'. This describes the process of dip-dyeing panels of knit, unravelling it onto a cone, then re-knitting the yarn back onto the knit machine. When re-knitted, new colours and sizes can be created, allowing for a completely new design. This process is circular by nature, and can create exciting new textiles, but with no wastage in the precious materials and dyes used. My textiles collection showcases contemporary, colourful knitwear for fashion that is centred around its values in sustainability and benefits for the future of our planet.
