Endre L. Fabian is a sculptor of the figurative and humanly forms, with practice situated in relation to the European sculptural tradition of the past and contemporary formality.
Materiality lies at the core of practice, with mediums brought into dialect with intended compositions, rather than enforced artistic will over. Craftmanship similarly plays a key part, studying techniques of prior milennias as well as still developing technological possibilities.
The inevitability of time, mortal decay, and temporal movement in relation to human body and sculpture set themselves as the basis of his thematic approach, dipping and surfacing in and under differing contexts.
This year's research takes interest in the shared phenomenon of destruction within the lifecycle of the sculpted figure, as it begins with removal of medium via the carving process for the form to emerge, ending with the inevitable erosion by the passage of time. It seeks a form that lies in the crossing point between these two opposing velocities yet can simultaneously embody both possibilities whilst still retaining their momentum.
