We can consider spaces as areas we move through and places as areas we dwell in. My project aims to provide a specialised place for the residents of the Kirkgate house tower block, while encouraging the creation of a diverse community.
Social cohesion through architecture acts as the catalyst to this diverse community. My proposal offers spaces that attract a variety of users, comprising of artists studios, a library/workspace for the many families and young people that live in the tower block and a sheltered courtyard where each demographic can interact with each other. In this way, the spaces acts as a tool with which the inhabitants can form their character based on those that they interact with.
