Bio

My practice uses painting, drawing and sculpture to explore the characteristics of care and unpredictability in artistic practice, and the role of these characteristics in creating an alternative approach to the environment in an environmental crisis.

I am particularly interested in reimagining map-making using the processes of abstract painting. While traditional maps communicate a specific narrative about a landscape, the process of accumulating and removing layers of paint reflects the complexity of how landscapes grow and shift over time; mountain ranges, enclosures and pathways emerge from the paint in unexpected ways. I hope to create ‘maps’ which are unpredictable and offer alternative approaches to understanding our relationships to place.

I often use reclaimed wall paint and paint on found surfaces. I also collect materials such as clay and rocks collected directly from landscapes to create pigments, offering an alternative approach that is grounded in reclamation, exchange and working directly with the landscape.
