My project focuses on the importance and quality of craftsmanship, cherishing both timeless techniques and cherished memories.
Currently, within textiles and fashion the speed of making and consumption is fast whilst
I am drawn to the appreciation of the slow making of textiles and the value of technique, design, and craft. My project is driven by treasuring our possessions by creating bespoke pieces which use slow textile processes. Techniques such as beading and painting showcase craftsmanship, with a focus on the time and care invested into these techniques, ultimately enriching the value of the textiles.
This collection utilises often overlooked materials, such as tickets, seaweed, and other materials, showcasing their significance which hold personal importance as they represent valuable memories. While using textiles techniques which are made to last and be treasured, I am also treasuring and holding onto my own memories and making these last. Outcomes include beaded and treasured objects, as well as scarves featuring a bespoke hand-beaded tag, for a luxury market.
These scarves have detailed hand drawings of gathered fragments of materials, tickets and places visited. Each scarf is adorned with a hand-beaded tag.
Fusing the concept of beaded tickets with my scarf designs by creating intricate beaded tags, available in both card and silk. Customised to complement each unique scarf design, these tailored tags elevate the scarves into bespoke pieces.
