The collection

This collection is a curation of beautiful compositions, curved lines and sensually intriguing surfaces. Each piece reflects a playful confinement of organic forms and home nostalgia, designed to transform and soothe an interior space as well as ourselves and our anxieties.

By combining certain pieces within the collection, you can create three different interior ambiences’ Play, Soothe and Fuse, offering a versatile collection that differs in scale, sensory stimulation, weight, and enables the collection to be adaptable to the individuals’ emotional needs. Every piece has been designed to be long lasting, timeless and made using sustainably conscious methods such as sourcing deadstock yarns and off-cut fabrics. They are a celebration of contemporary textile art and handcrafted design.

Jemima

This piece has been felted by hand using dead-stock yarns and took three weeks to complete. It’s designed to soothe and play with the senses through a confinement of organic forms, replicated through multi-sensory textile surface.  The muse behind the design is my grandma, Margaret, who during lockdown sent me a box of her garden’s wildflowers up to Edinburgh to help me with my project. They were all shrivelled up after the journey but despite their prune-like appearance, I drew from them, and they eventually turned into this piece, a miraculous muse of Margaret’s dead plants from Yorkshire.

Flowers on my dressing table

This hand felted, sustainably made piece is a celebration of the multi-use spaces we have all created during the past year; the cluttered kitchen sides from too much washing up, the desk that serves as a workspace and a dressing table. It depicts a chaotic yet marvellous scene that reflects the challenges of space confinement through a positive and poetic composition. The piece helps to reduce anxiety specifically surrounding the difficulty of making our home spaces feel pleasurable again through intriguing compositions and sensory engaging surfaces.

Nightstand

This abstract depiction of a nightstand encourages the user to play, to wrap and envelop themselves within, drawing you to the tactile qualities of the various surfaces; curiously questioning the narrative behind the scenic visuals whilst being soft on the skin. Its intention is to soothe oneself within the surrounding space and help to re-focus the mind through a curation of soft shapes and home nostalgia.

Dijon

This is a piece designed to soothe and uplift through colour and sensory interaction. It is a tufted piece which has then been felted and embroidered into, reminiscent of illustrative mark making. It functions as a rug or weighted blanket, a transitional and adaptable piece to mould to any interior.

The Ambience Rooms

The collection is split into two emotionally led themes; one uses Dijon yellow, forest green and cornflower blue to create organic, biophilic imagery along with gentle compositions to form associations with the feeling of calm and tranquillity. The other uses dark browns, ochres and warm oranges to allude the feeling of warmth and safety. By combining certain pieces within the collection, you can create three different ambiences; Play, Soothe and Fuse. This enables the collection to be adaptable, allowing the individual to create their own atmosphere that can be tailored to their emotional needs .

I have created three atmospheric playlists, accessible through the QR codes, which sit alongside each ambience to enhance sensory engagement. The textiles selected for Play, Soothe and Fuse all complement each other in terms of feel, practicality, colour, each one intended to allude different positive emotions, but all intended to soothe and calm.

They stroked and squeezed seeds

To sit alongside the collection, I have collaborated with Sasha Delmage, a talented, Glasgow based illustrator and have created the story book, ‘They stroked and squeezed seeds’ which explores the collection’s concept through humorous and heart-warming illustrations.

Artist Bio

I am a Textile Designer and Artist currently based between Edinburgh and Glasgow. My work aims to utilise various fabrics as a space for comfort and growth, in the context of the home. My practice is rooted in an awareness and consideration of the ethical impacts of the industry, and I thrive to work sustainably to produce pieces that leave no waste. Combining various techniques, my unique approach juxtaposes textures to create modern and distinctive pieces that are one off’s, hand crafted and made with care to last.
