Project description

Drawing inspiration from Arab culture, 'We Love the Country' (2022-2024) invites participants to uncover the depths of their own identity and sense of belonging while reflecting on themes of love and the country. At its core lies a profound question: 'Do you love the country?' acting as a gateway to exploring the intricate layers of one's relationship with one's homeland, probing into notions of love, affiliation, and connection.

The project explores art forms centred around audience interaction, engagement, and experiences, taking the form of participatory performances and immersive workshops to scores and audio work. It becomes a space for collective dialogue, communication, and self-reflection. It focuses on the exchange between the artist and the audience/ participants and how they become integral to the narrative.

My graduate show work features a series of participatory performances that take place daily, inviting audience engagement and interaction. These live performances are broadcasted through a speaker system placed up the staircase of the college building  for the sounds and voices to resonate through the selected space. This setup allows  visitors the experience to extend beyond the immediate performance area, drawing in visitors moving through the exhibition.Additionally, the exhibit includes a multi-channel audio installation which forms a small yet significant part of the rich dialogues that emerged from workshops I conducted. These workshops focused on Arab identity, highlighting the diverse perspectives and experiences for a deeper understanding and appreciation of its complexities.
